Video News Release Frequently Asked Questions

What Is A Video News Release? Video News Release defined: A Video News Release or VNR is a video that is released free to TV stations to tell a story or convey information. A VNR can tell about a companies new product or service, or be used to make an announcement. VNRs are designed to be used in TV stations newscasts. Why Make A VNR? VNRs are a cost effective way to reach millions of people. They also provide a way for the audience to make a visual connection with you and your product or service.

What Types Of VNRs Are There? We deal with mainly three types of VNRs (1) Full, (2) B-roll, and (3) Evergreen. A Full VNR would be one that includes a produced news package, natural sound package, and additional sound bites and b-roll. A B-roll VNR would be one that included only b-roll (video about the subject). These are great to hand out to the news media at press conferences etc. The evergreen type VNR would be a type that is structured so that it would be useful for a long period of time.

How Much Does It Cost To Produce A VNR? Cost? Cost will vary depending on how much videotaping is  needed, how many locations the production crew must travel to, how much editing time is required, how many copies of the video need to be made and many other factors.

Will TV Stations Use My Video News Release? Yes! Stations and reporters appreciate a company saving them time gathering video. With tighter stations budgets, reporters often use "hand out" video-- Your VNR -- to support other material they gather for a story on your industry...or your company.   VNR s eliminate one more roadblock for a reporter working under tight deadlines. Stations NEED VNRs. Some will use them as is, some will "cherry pick" elements that you provide and CONTROL. Its one more tool in your public relations arsenal.

How do I Increase The Chances my VNR Will Be Used? Timing is everything. While it is not possible to identify when breaking news will occur there are news cycles and times of the year when stations will need video. We help identify those periods and work with you to get your VNR used. Also the VNR can NOT be a commercial in disguise. It must offer "news you can use." Something of value to the viewer beyond a company promotion. We'll help identify the message that will catch a local producer's eye and increase the odds your VNR will get used.
